of the california environmental quality act and certifies the eir, this could be a venue site for the america's cup. they have tenants in all of those facilities who would be impacted by this. we are obviously very concerned about our tenants. the port has provided and will continue to provide regular updates to their tenants about information in the public records to make sure that they are aware of a host of thing you agreements. the staff has started out reached to those tenants to offer one-on-one meetings to give that information. a number of other city agencies, treasure island development authority, the redevelopment agency has experience with this kind of tenant relocation effort. if see what is approved, we would seek their advice as well. -- if seek whaceqa bid is approe would seek their advice. after the final eir is certified, the port would identify the available space and the tenants' needs. also the types of space that is available both on pork property and the private-sector turned to we currently don't have sufficient vacancies for all the tenants that would be impacted by this. an

, and i have to tell you, it is going to be an amazing spot to watch anything related to the america's cup, so i think they will do very well. but if you get a chance to get in and see it, it is worth seeing. wonderful. very proud, and congratulations to them from all of us. later this week on thursday is the annual fishermans wharf merchants association dinner and silent auction. this is 8 already, so this is their eighth anniversary. this year, the restaurant out at the end of pier 39. it will begin at 7:00 p.m. as i said, thursday, february 10. the merchants association is honoring the family for their contributions to the rich history of fisherman's wharf. as you may recall, mr. simmons was very connected with pier 39 and very much involved in the development of pier 39, and his family currently owns and operates the restaurants, so it is a big loss to see him pass away. we look forward to remembering him. finally, a former port staffer, nick larocca passed away. he was only 64. as you may recall, it was not that long ago that he retired from the port. barely over two years. he has unf

to be in securing the right to host america's cup. i was one of its earliest supporters in trying to rally the city family from the board in recognizing, i think, the benefits of us pursuing the america's cup vigorously and proud of the fact that we were able to do so collectively. i also made it clear that in the course of that pursuit, that this be a deal unlike any other for san francisco city and county and, frankly, for the bay area because of our leadership in pursuing this deal, that we are obligated in making sure that process and the governance of how this deal is to be transacted is really beyond approach in its integrity and the fact that transparency and the integrity of that transparency would always remain intact. so i think it is only fitting that because of changes that occurred between december 15 and 31st, the public has yet to benefit from a full understanding as to what the gains, the losses, the liabilities or obligations are potentially of any of those alterations of the original deal. i thank the budget analyst and his staff for working diligently to provide us with what has

in the city's economic future. are you happy with the plans for the america's cup? do you think the city should try it spend money to keep the 49ers? supervisor mar: did not get me started. i could go on for a long time. i think america's cup will help the whole area. i think the organizing committee has a big task to raise a lot of private sector money so it does not impact negatively on our general fund, but i do think the deal crafted by a lot of the enforcement is a good deal will help a lot of the parts of the city that need the help. it is also a lot of gauging of community groups and the yacht club saying that they want to provide better boating opportunities and education for young people in the mission district or, hopefully, in the mission or other places. but i know that as the america's cup moves forward, there are many community-based groups that want to be part of it. we recently had communications from the parks council wanting to ensure the swimming and blue and green projects could be created with the america's cup also encourages improvements of swimming pools so people

. supervisor avalos: i appreciate the sort of high- level response. do you want to speak to the america's cup? >> the america's cup project, the city entered the agreement on december 31. we are in the process of conducting analysis pursuant to the california environmental quality act. that will not be a project until we have completed seqa and got the other permits. . two ways to think about employment with respect to the america's cup. it will generate much money in economic activity. the planned timeline is 2013 for races. projections are that of $1.4 billion in economic activity will yield many new jobs regionally. that is an awful lot of jobs in the short amount of time. a lot of that as private sector activity. the city will not have a contractual or similar hook to try to control health local hire it fits into that purely private sector activity. there is a lot of activity planned on the port property either in the form of construction activity and through the new leases. the america's cup authority will be leasing 8 piers and two acres for hosting the event. we would be looking to the
